Restoration Winter...

Leave the dry skin behind,literally!

a salt glow is the perfect way of shedding a few surface layers of
dried and sun damaged skin. leaving behind a softer and glowing you!

Not only does the exfoliation allow your dead skin cells to be

removed allowing for your new layers of cells
to absorb nutrients and
process toxins,
but salt has properties that attract negative ions
(stress
is a negative ion!),

so the friction allows you to shed cells and you body

sheds stress!! the natural mineral content in the salt is invigorating, and
we finish with a massage in nourishing shea butter to nurture the new you!

or, Maybe you are like me,
and suffer from allergies?

experience a natural and non-invasive way of clearing out your
sinus cavities with ear candles!
a gentle heat with a subtle suction helps clear out the ear
providing relief of pressure in the head, relief from ringing in the ears,
or minor feelings of being off balance. A result you can actually see!
cleaning the ear of wax and bacteria, you give the body a chance to build up
the appropriate amount of wax while getting rid of the excess that may be
causing you problems.

and invest in a Neti Pot... you can find them at whole foods,
walgreens... anywhere you can find decongestants! it is a small teapot with
a long spout, you fill it with a saline packet (i use half of one for each
nostril) and room temperature water... and place the spout to one nostril,
while tipping your head, allowing the water to rinse out your sinus cavities
and run out the other nostril.
this is a great way to clean out your sinuses
without blowing harshly and creating inflammation in your nose and getting
that stuffy sound. and it is more thorough and gentle than sinus sprays
that don't clear all of the sinus cavities in your head. It feels weird at
first, but you will immediately feel a difference!

most importantly, treat yourself gently...
you are worth it.

with transitions abundant this time of year,
and the holidays only a breath away...
massage is not pampering it is
maintenance for your body, mind and spirit.

and if you are feeling good, so will those around you...

much love,
kirstin kluver

We are human beings not human doings…

do you take time to just be?

i find myself worth too often in what i have accomplished and what i am taking part in… and the world reaffirms this behavior. We have to work, even our off time is filled with activities that require work… how much value is in down time? in taking time to just be?

to build a relationship with ourselves, we can't be afraid to be alone with ourselves…

i have been working on a meditation practice to help me slow down and check in with little ol' me… to see where i am at, to see how i am doing… honestly and simply…

at first my attempts just turned into nap time… which i do not judge, naps are AMAZING!
but then, i started to work with guided meditation tapes, and progressed into being able to sit down with a timer (to keep me from turning my 15 minutes into 3) and just allowing my thoughts of what i should be doing or what has been done, to flow from my stream of consciousness into the vastness of the universe…to quite my mind.
There is no right or wrong way to meditate, and its not going to be easy the first few goes at it… and eventually, with discipline and practice, i have found myself without a timer and staying in stillness for 30 minutes if not longer…

We are structured to do, to think, to plan, to judge… and meditation asks us to let got of these actions, and sit with ourselves in peace…

here are a few links to guided meditations:

A short meditation with deepak chopra
A deep relaxation meditation
A meditation with the Self-Realization Center

and your own practice doesn't have to be as structured… we don't even have to put it in the box of "meditation" if that makes you feel uncomfortable…

but give yourself the gift of time with you… not in front of the TV, not mulling over what is happening in your life or all the "shoulds" in your life… just enjoying time with yourself.
if it feels uncomfortable not "doing", then try it again… each time building more and more time into your session… until you begin to look forward to your time just being with yourself.

These moments are important… the physical body uses our sleep to heal and digest the day's activities… but all through the day, the brain can use moments of stillness to digest what is going on in the now. Our brains are like computers… constantly downloading new information, and if we don't give it time to process, if we keep on inputting… it runs slower…

i have moments in busy days, where i feel like i hit a wall… when i have sensory overload and begin to space out… these daydreaming spells or moments of staring off into space… are moments our body is forcing us to pause.

the more time we give for reflection and stillness, the better we can handle situations at hand… because we know where we stand, we know where we are coming from and where we have been… we take time to recognize our own boundaries and desires and can better facilitate making them our reality.

being active is great, and staying focused allows us to be accomplished and fulfilled… but by giving yourself time to savor what you are doing, you can become fully present in each of those magnificent gifts of your day! Imagine focusing not on the outcome, but loving overstep you take to get there…

so recognize your being… give yourself the gift of stillness… give yourself the gift of loving you!

The Invitation

It doesn't interest me what you do for a living. I want to know what you ache for, and if you dare to dream of meeting your hearts longing.

It doesn't interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love, for your dream, for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn't interest me what planets are squaring your moon. I want to know if you have touched the center of your own sorrow, if you have been opened by life's betrayals or have become shriveled and closed from fear of further pain. I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine or your own, without moving to hide it or fade it or fix it.

I want to know if you can be with joy, mine or your own, if you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes without cautioning us to be careful, to be realistic, to remember the limitations of being human.

It doesn't interest me if the story you are telling me is true. I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself; if you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul; if you can be faithless and therefore trustworthy.

I want to know if you can see beauty, even when its not pretty, every day, and if you can source your own life from it's presence.

I want to know if you can live with failure, yours and mine, and still stand on the edge of a lake and shout to the silver of the full moon, "Yes!"

It doesn't interest me to know where you live or how much money you have. I want to know if you can get up, after the night of grief and despair, weary and bruised to the bone, and do what needs to be done to feed the children.

It doesn't interest me who you know or how you came to be here. I want to know if you will stand in the center of the fire with me and not shrink back.

It doesn't interest me where or what or with whom you have studied. I want to know what sustains you, from the inside, when all else falls away.

I want to know if you can be alone with yourself and if you are you truly like the company you keep n the empty moments.

Water…

Smooth, Fluid, Supple, Nourishment, … Life!

we all know water is important,
Water covers 70.9% of the Earth's surface, and is vital for all forms of life…

Now i'm going to give you more percentages… and its not because i like statistics, it's because they are pretty impressive! once i knew the power of water and how every part of me depended on it… i made it my duty to keep my systems properly hydrated so they can do their job and keep me functioning… how else would i be able to keep up with my dreams?

The human body, itself, is anywhere from 55% to 78% water depending on size… and just think about it…

your brain is estimated to consists of 85% water…The brain is extremely sensitive to water loss. It is said that the brain cannot tolerate even a 1% loss of water. Dehydration can cause damage in the blood vessels in the brain…

your blood is about 83% water… how can it flow without it? keeping hydrated keeps the circulation from getting thick and slow…

your bones are around 22% water… keeping them hydrated can prevent the brittling of your bones, leading to osteoporosis…

Every thing you are made of is a cell… and these cells contain protoplasm, which contains fats, carbohydrates, proteins, salts and other elements combined with WATER… water is the liquid agent responsible for dissolving, transporting and chemically breaking down the other substances in the cells…

The body needs electrolytes to function, it is the substance that acquire the capacity to conduct electricity. And we are electric beings… that's how our systems communicate….
Well, the electrolytes include sodium, potassium, chloride, calcium and phosphate. Knowing what these minerals do is not important, it is important to know that if they don't have water they can not activate… and dry out and die…

Water is an essential component of our body and plays a vital role….

Drinking water lubricates the muscle fibers allowing them to stretch and contract with less friction and helps maintain muscle tone…. it allows the transport of oxygen to cells… and helps eliminate the body of toxins and waste… it keeps the skin supple and hydrated from the inside… it helps produce the natural sleep regulator, melatonin, allowing healthy sleep patterns… it regulates body temperature…. it generates electrical energy within your cells giving you energy… it is one of the lubricants in your joints, helping protect them from damage….prevention of constipation, provides a moist environment for ear, nose and throat tissues...

to put it another way…

You take your car in for oil changes… make sure all the fluids
are at the appropriate level.

why not keep your body in the same condition?

Every 24 hours drinking 2.7 liters of water(12 cups) for women and 3.7 liters (16 cups) for men… as suggested by the United States National Research Council.
With excessive physical activity or heat levels making sure you increase your intake… keeping in mind that there is a "too much" and not over filling your system leading to water intoxication.

And try adding two teaspoons of freshly squeezed lemon or lime juice to your water three times a day: upon rising, mid-afternoon, and in your final water intake in the evening. The juice will help alkalize your body and neutralize acids created from digesting certain foods or normal cellular metabolism.

It's Official...

I am making my way to the Omaha Healing Arts Center!

I am sad to say goodbye to my dear friends at Urbane, but the time has come for me to follow my heart and grow within my work... and i can not think of a more suiting place for such an endeavor.

The OM Center, located at 1216 Harney St. in the old market,
is the loving gift of Sandy Aquila to Omaha.
She has created a sacred space for education, culture and community to mix with holistic healing and practices of wellness for the whole being...

Upstairs you walk into a Tea Bar surrounded by the retail of imports from around the world: artistic and divine... there is also a beautiful space (which can be rented out) that has seen the likes from Omaha's spoken word artists to dancing Sufi's whirling about! Come to meditate, to practice yoga or any number of other classes the OM Center has to offer...

Downstairs, i have the privilege of sharing space with some beautiful, strong, inspiring women... one of them, Chanell Jaramillo, of Transpersonal Health, is who i am actually sharing a room with. I am looking forward to her positive energy, Chanell is a life coach and wellness consultant. She analyzes your Aura to help facilitate her consultation with you...

So come visit me, i am taking appointments now to begin in August! and come visit the Omaha Healing Arts Center and be part of this beautiful, artistic and healing vortex in our very own backyard!

Here's what happening now at the OM Center...

Fascia (făsh'ē-ə)...

… in Latin, it literally means a "band"

and it is everywhere in the human body.

the superficial layers of fascia help adhere the skin to our underlying structures… it can be found surrounding the muscle fibers them selves… encapsulating and protecting all of our tissue and organs…
it is a fibrous and strong connective tissue.
This thin layer helps provide protection and structural support.

Fascia is a band of tissue, a web in all of us...

tension can build up in this web and create pain in places totally unrelated to the site of trauma. Think of the large parachutes we would play with in the school yard (i know i'm not the only one) all of the kids surrounding this large nylon sheet… when there is no tension it billows with the wind and is responsive to anything the world throws at it… once one person pulls tight, we see the entire parachute call to attention and react. when everyone pulls tight and the parachute is taught you can see the children surrounding it being affected when someone pulls on the tarp…

Same is true with your fascia, being an interconnected web that extends from head to toe, if there is a tensed area in one part of your body then sure enough, another area is bound to feel the pull…

Myofascial release allows friction and pressure to melt the superficial fascia layer, releasing the underlying muscles. This slow and specific kind of stretch allows you to receive a deep massage without being invasive or violent to the tissue.

Deep Tissue massage has its place… but a lot of people associate it with pain or discomfort, and massage should never hurt you. Your threshold of pain is a measuring tool of how we reach a therapeutic level of discomfort without injury. So, if you are in pain, let your practitioner know. Also, going deep without working out the superficial may cause your therapist to miss a trigger points or adhesion. A gentle working through the layers is needed so we can address all levels. So, rethink what you think Deep Tissue is all about. It is a (key words here) therapeutic release of tissue at deeper levels. "Therapeutic release" therefore it is beneficial to the health of your tissue (not injurious) and a release (letting go, not creating more). In order to release you have to relax. breathe through each stroke, breathe through the discomfort. That oxygen will help nourish your blood and the afflicted area. That deep breathing will calm your nervous system and allow your muscles to relax… because if your fighting the pressure the work will not be as effective.

Now you can say you know what fascia is...
Get to know your body, always know your boundaries… and Go deep with myofascial!
